BCCI Apex Council: Impact Player tweak for SMAT, participation NOC for foreign leagues on agenda

Image
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering implementing regulations on the participation of Indian players in overseas leagues. Additionally, they are planning to update the Impact Player rule in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Twenty20 domestic competition. These matters are set to be among the top agenda of the board's Apex Council Meeting on July 7. There have been growing concerns in the BCCI corridors about Indian players participating in overseas leagues, particularly after retirement, and how those T20 leagues are mushrooming owing to the surplus funds from IPL which the Indian investors are channelling towards those leagues. Cricbuzz understands that specific rules are set to be established for players wishing to take part in the overseas leagues such as ILT20 in the UAE and Major League Cricket in the US. It is likely that obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the board will become mandatory if they plan to be involved in any capacity - coaching or othe

PCB to seek government clearance before confirming World Cup participation

Image
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has stated that it will need to obtain clearance from the government before confirming its participation in the World Cup. This response came after the schedule for the World Cup was announced in Mumbai on Tuesday. It appears that the PCB's requests and concerns were not taken into account in the World Cup programme. "The PCB requires clearance from the Government of Pakistan for any tour to India, including the match venues," said a spokesman for the Pakistan board in a statement following the release of the full schedule of the World Cup a few hours ago. "We are in communication with our government to seek guidance, and once we receive a response from them, we will update the Event Authority (ICC). This stance aligns with what we communicated to the ICC a couple of weeks ago when they shared the draft schedule with us and sought our feedback," added the spokesman. However, no indication was given as to their views on the final

Root snatches World No. 1 status from Labuschagne in Test batting rankings

Robinson joins Anderson among top five Test bowlers after first Ashes Test Joe Root's 30th Test century and a second-innings 46 in the first Ashes Test has given him the crown of the world's No. 1 Test batter in the latest ICC rankings update. Marnus Labuschagne, who was the top-ranked batter before the Ashes began, dropped two places to the third position following scores of 0 and 13 in Edgbaston. Labuschagne wasn't the only Australian who dropped places. Travis Head slipped from third to fourth despite a fifty in the first innings, while Steven Smith slid from second to sixth after ordinary scores in both the innings of the opening Test. Kane Williamson, who hasn't played a Test since March 2023 and is out with an ACL injury, climbs up to No. 2 as a result. Madushanka, Wellalage and Arachchige added to SL's WCQ squad as standby options

The three players will link up with the senior squad in Zimbabwe on June 23 Madushka Balasuriya Dilshan Madushanka became the most expensive signing at the inaugural LPL auction   •  Getty Dilshan Madushanka, Dunith Wellalage and Sahan Arachchige are set to link up with the senior squad on June 23, after Sri Lanka Cricket announced that the trio would be flown in to Zimbabwe for the World Cup Qualifiers as "standby options". The inclusion of Madushanka, a left-armer able to swing the ball at pace, follows impressive recent outings against South Africa A, where he picked up nine wickets across three 50-over games and then another four in a four-day encounter, and comes on the back of him becoming the most expensive signing at $92,000 at the inaugural LPL auction. It also makes sense considering the fragility of Sri Lanka's seamers. Lahiru Kumara has a recent history of breaking down mid-game, while Dushmantha Chameera's work load is being carefully managed. This leaves

Kasperek has been picked to be part of the New Zealand squad for the first time since the tour of England in 2021 © Getty Fast bowler Jess Kerr has been ruled out of New Zealand's upcoming tour of Sri Lanka due to a broken toe. Kerr was struck on the toe while batting in the nets last week, and subsequent scans showed a fracture. She now needs upto six weeks of rehabilitation. Leigh Kasperek has been named Kerr's replacement. "Picking up an injury so close to departure for a tour is always disappointing," New Zealand women's team head coach Ben Sawyer said. "Jess is a key part of our bowling group in both formats and will be missed on what will be a challenging tour. "Jess has been working really hard over the winter and we were excited to see how she would perform in new conditions for her, but we're confident she will be back fit and ready for our next challenge after Sri Lanka," Sawyer added. Kasperek meanwhile, has been picked to be part o
